Poinsettia
EUPHORBIA PULCHERRIMA [poinsettia]
The poinsettia was first found as a wild flower in Mexico in the 1800's and cultivated for Christmas in the United States.
The poinsettia is a diffulcult plant to grow, but with proper care they will continue to bloom for several months and can live for many years. These plants normally flower in the fall when the nights are long and cold. While blooming poinsettia need plenty of sun and protection from drafts and sudden temperature changes. Poinsettia do not like there soil to be kept wet or too dry, or if the plant is suddenly moved to a lower light spot, its leaves will drop. Poor drainage, over watering or standing in water will cause root rot. poinsettia need less water during the spring and summer, fertilizer once a month. In the fall and winter you should fertilize every other week. Prune after flowering to shape plant.
Always spray new arriving plants with a insecticide. Poinsettia need a systemic insecticide, so not to spot foliage.
